“‘Stop Now Arroyo’s Plunder’ or SNAP aims to empty the presidency by March 2009.”
by Ducky Paredes
Imagine if the House of Representatives (made up of mostly rabid Gloria fans, sworn to eternal adulation) and the Senate were to agree on convening a Constituent Assembly. This would be made possible by the House agreeing to certain ground rules, chief of which will be that the Constituent Assembly would be composed of the House and the Senate voting separately.
Thus, this being the case, the Senate would have no fear that it would become irrelevant since there are only 24 of them and the House has over two hundred votes, each of which has the usual price tag. Voting separately, the Senate could continue to function as it has always done – untouchable within its own chambers with the power nullify whatever the larger body proposes.
Then, having been convened as a Constituent Assembly, a concerned citizen goes to the Supreme Court, possibly made up of persons possibly thankful to Gloria for having appointed them Justices.
Mr. Citizen wants the Court to rule on this: Having convened as a Constituent Assembly, have not the members of the Constituent Assembly lost their identities as Congressmen and Senators?
Does not the constituent Assembly stand as a separate body from both the House and the Senate? If this is so, how then can one have the House and the Senate vote separately when they are in fact in the Constituent Assembly and not in their respective chambers?
Faced with such a logical argument, the Court would have no choice (specially, since this would favor their revered Icon) but to so declare that there is no way that the two non-existent chambers within the Constituent Assembly can have separate votes.
Since, the Constituent Assembly must, by law and tradition, finish its work before its members can go back to their respective chambers, wouldn’t you say that – at that point – we would all realize that our goose has been cooked.
And how would the Filipino population react to this development. It would be such a choice point which one can mull on deliciously for days on end that we would probably think on this, argue the point over and over again and – basically – do nothing about it.
Thus would pass with great haste and swiftness all of the constitutional amendments that would install Gloria as virtual queen and you-know-who as her consort as well as other provisions.
But, this would have to be approved by the people in a plebiscite that must be called within the time allotted? Sure, and I can already tell you what the result will be. The surveys will show that the amendments are unacceptable to the people; the plebiscite’s results, however, will be the exact opposite of he surveys. This is easily explained as the result of he powerful campaign waged by the congressmen in their bailiwicks, most of which were, of course, never reached by the public opinion pollsters.
What got me thinking along these lines? I received an e-mail that pointed me to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nb7Dv-XLZlU.
This is about what the emailer (”Dennis Masagca” dennismasagca@gmail.com) says is the “latest destabilization plot.”
Writes Dennis: ‘Stop Now Arroyo’s Plunder’ or SNAP aims to empty the presidency by March 2009. Similar to common destabilization plots, it all starts with anti-administration propaganda, tarnishing Gloria’s credence, discrediting her and throwing in her face all sorts of accusations particularly graft and corruption.
Dennis says that any number of personalities are in it, specifically Atty. Harry Roque. Ping Lacson, Dinky Soliman and so on.
I don’t believe a word of it but Dennis has the capability to put together a video presentation on youtube and the effrontery to feed me false information. Thus, I figured that if they will go to the extent of doing what Dennis did, they must have other plans that the rest of us still have not figured out.
After all, anyone who thinks that there is any need for more “anti-administration propaganda” and that “Gloria’s credence” can still be tarnished or Gloria discredited with accusations of grafft and corruption must be some true believer.
The only answer to a wild tale is an even wilder one. This is it!

After seeing what happened in Mumbai, I realize that separating our Muslim brothers from the rest of us will probably result in similar terrorist attacks. This is not to say that Muslim Filipinos are terrorists.
What I realized is that the answer has to be further integration and not separation. It we separate them from the main sector of society, we give an opening to the terrorists in the Middle East to infiltrate our country.
The force that attacked Mumbai with a view of killing 5,000 Indians failed because it employed amateurs who were, at the same time, trained by Al-Quaida and perhaps other terrorist groups, most of which have already made inroads among our Muslim population.
Thus, as the government starts up again its negotiations with the MILF separatists, it would be well to remind our panel that integrating our Muslim brothers is a better way to peace than segregation. It may be a harder route but it is actually the only one that will work.
