“Would Gilbert Teodoro make a fine president? I certainly think so!”
by Ducky Paredes
If the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) wants us to believe that an anti-woman proposed provision in the pending Magna Carta for Women bill, it should put a face to that denial, some bishop should stand up and explain.
What Congress has is a draft provision clearly marked as coming from the CBCP. The provision is pretty crude and evil. It would expel students and fire teachers who find themselves pregnant outside of marriage. This puts the CBCP in a bind.
What, then, does a rape victim do to continue her schooling? What the provision suggests is that her best move would be to go for an abortion. But, isn’t the Church pro-life and therefore anti-abortion? Or is the CBCP more focused on punishing those who would get pregnant without being married? Or, perhaps, this is the bishops’ way of discouraging premarital sex.
If premarital sex is the problem, wouldn’t the more reasonable way of preventing this, without resorting to abortions, include teaching our young men and women about sex or sex education? But, the Church is also against allowing the young to know about sex and how to avoid premarital sex. So, what else is left but to expel the student so as not to embarrass the school. Throw her out and forget the incident!
Recently, in the US, a survey showed that more and more Americans are turning away from religion. They have a deep faith and belief in God but do not trust organized religion. The reason is that religions, no matter if they were built on love of humanity as is all Christian faiths, eventually, since these are managed by mere humans, those who run these religions will want their beliefs and ways imposed on everyone.
The reason why there must be a separation of Church and State is that it is impossible to have good governance in a State when the Church is constantly looking over its shoulder and imposing its beliefs even on those who are not members of their Church.
The State, too, given the chance would take over the Churches as a lot of politicos do so in so many places, through their power over the public purse.
At any rate, since this was not included in the bill even as the congressmen proposing this throwback provision (that could have come from the time of the Inquisition) claimed that it came from the CBCP, perhaps, everyone should just let this bill move on to become law.
The proposed Magna Carta for Women gives women equal access to education, scholarship, training, information and public services, including counseling on issues concerning marriage and family. It also requires government and other agencies to implement anti-gender discrimination programs. It also provides more protection against discrimination in contracts and land titling.

Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro invited a group of media golfers to play at the Philippine Navy Golf Course last week.
When asked about his plans in 2010, he said the same thing that he told a foreign correspondent later – that he would run only if he did so as a candidate of the administration. Although this made a lot of sense – after all, he is a sitting Cabinet member – of course, that did not seem like news to us. Besides, many of us actually like Gilbert and thought that being an unpopular President’s candidate would not be in his best interest.
But, if that is the way he wants to run, then, why not? After all, he is the candidate and would be President. Thus, he has to be allowed to do things his way. If he feels comfortable running a Gloria’s candidate, go, Gilbert!
Perhaps, the reader should know more about the man.
Gilbert is the only child of Gilberto C. Teodoro, the former Social Security System administrator and Mercedes Cojuangco, former Batasang Pambansa member.
He was president of the Kabataang Barangay in Tarlac from 1980 to 1985 and the KB Federation of Central Luzon. He was also in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
Teodoro graduated from De La Salle University with a degree in Management of Financial Institutions. He also holds a law degree from the University of the Philippines, and a master’s degree from the Harvard Law School in the US. He topped the 1989 bar exams, becoming one of the youngest bar topnotchers in the country. He also passed the New York State Bar exams in 1997.
Gilbert is married to Monica Louise Prieto, presently a congresswoman of Tarlac.
Gilbert holds the rank of full colonel in the Reserve Force of the Philippine Air Force and is an adopted son of the Philippine Military Academy’s “Magilas” Class of 1976 and an honorary member of the Philippine Air Force Class of 1980, and the Association of Chiefs of Police, Inc. He also chairs the board of trustees of the Philippine National Police Foundation (PNPF).
Teodoro was a lecturer at the National Defense College and a regular assistant professor at the General Command and Staff Course of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Gilbert is also a licensed pilot. He took up a Command and Staff Course class at the Philippine Air Force (under the Air Education and Training Command of the Air Command and Staff College) while in Congress.
As Defense Secretary, he has been doing a very good job,
Would Gilbert Teodoro make a fine president? I certainly think so!

PGMA has done so much. It only makes sense that the next president should be the one that she will annoint/endorse for the sake of continuity.
I will support the candidate whose hand, PGMA will raise. If it’s Sec. Teodoro, then so be it.
I and the rest of the filipinos here pledge our support for our next President Gilbert Teodoro.
Mukhang may iboboga. Go Gilbert Teodoro for President!
The 45-year-old Teodoro entered politics in 1998 a year after finishing his Masters of Law in the US.
He served three terms as representative of the first district of Tarlac and was assistant minority leader in the 11th Congress.
He is best remembered not for the bills he authored, but for the political moves that he either initiated or supported in the House of Representatives.
In 2003, Teodoro led his NPC partymates in a controversial move to impeach then Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide that almost caused a constitutional crisis.
Teodoro was accused then of acting for the interests of his uncle Danding Cojuangco, who had pending cases with the high court.
As a congressman, Teodoro has consistently supported efforts to amend the Constitution and voted against all moves to impeach President Arroyo.
His loyalty paid off.
In 2007, at the age of 43, he was appointed national defense secretary, the youngest ever to hold the national defense portfolio.
quoted from Tony Velasquez - ANC
Yes certainly. The man has a clear vision for the country and he is not afraid to stand for his belief be it popular or not. We should choose someone based on his merits not merely of what his ancestors are known for.
Yes absolutely, Sec. Gilbert G. Teodoro is going to be the next President of our country. He is very qualified, honest and an experienced government official. With the permission of Angel #9 I would like to make my own his comment.”he has a clear vision for the country and is not afraid to stand for his belief be it popular or not..NOT SOMEONE WHO RUNS ON THE MERITS OF HIS ANCESTORS”.Our whole family will definitely vote for him.
yes! i’ll definitely vote and campaign for him. he is highly educated, principled, no issues to tarnish him, and i believe he is the one who can lead the filipino people back to progress.
first i heard dnd sec gibo will run for presidency..i ask why? kabago bago nya lang..kako defense sec xa tatakbo agad..in short i dont like his intention at first..at second..hehehe i made a little research about him..his backgrounds..platforms..programs.. i watched his interviews…forums..talks.. then i found out that he got a guts;;;not only guts..he has potentials in leadin a nation.. after then, every day every night…i followin him on his daytoday portfolio..jeje mga news, youtubes, sali sa mga comments..to know him well..and infact…i start campaignin him na..first i convinced my girlfriend to know gibo..and then my family…coz there’s saying na “family first” in short..pag di mo mag convince family mo..meaning mahihirapan ka rin mag convince ng ibang tao to follow your adhikain ika nga. and im overwhelmed for their response..the’re startin to like and know gibo now..kahit Gloria boy xa but i know na he has his own qualities and perspective in running a gov’t if ever na xa ang mananalo.. We all need strong a firm president…hindi ung umaasa o sumasandal sa mga tao na napapapligid sa kanya.. we all need ung may strong determination for CHANGE.. and i can see it only to GILBERT “GIBO” TEODORO.. dito sa singapore..kina campaign ko na rin xa sa mga kababayan ko..sabi nila..sino xa?jeje sagot ko..he’s unpopular not like noynoy.. he’s not rich not like manny villar.. he’s not scandalous or gambler..like erap..he’s not using a propaganda “maka-masa, maka-mahirap at mr tagalog” like chiz iskudiro..at lalong hindi xa maliit like gloria arroyo..HE IS A MAN WITH DIGNITY, PASSION AND DETERMINATION FOR A BETTER PHILIPPINES. A MAN.. with his own judgement. If we want change? better philippines? then, we will help GIBO to win his race. NEW FACE for a NEW PHILIPPINES. GODBLESS US ALL.
The camp of Kampi-Lakas had made the right choice. By just two proverbial words University of the Philippines and a profession of a lawyer, that explains everything.
Socialist countries do that approach in picking a leader to their party. That leader with good scholastic record in university is invited to the party, trained, and dispatched to do the policy of the ruling party. Its hightime we at least adopt the approach.
Gilbert Teodoro is the next philippines
president because he is capable than
other
presidentiables. As the head of DND you
can see him everywhere in time of
calamity he is doing a very good job
to help peoples in needs and in peace
like in mindanao. how much more if he
will be president.so i pledge my support
for him next election.
philippines president
Gibo is definitely the man! I support him no matter what, he holds the greatest potential and capacity to lead the country. Here are some reasons why I think he deserves to be president:
1. His education is top class: De La Salle University - BS Commerce, Management of Financial Institutions; University of the Philippines - Bachelor of Laws (Topnotcher); Harvard University - Master of Laws (Passed the New York State Bar Exams). On the side, he is a licensed commercial pilot and has a Lear Jet rating (he can fly his own Air Force One).
2. He already has an inclination towards public service since he was young. He was SK president in his district back in the 1980’s, back then when the SK was clean and was genuinely service-oriented. He became congressman, and now incumbent defense secretary. He is already in familiar territory when it comes to public service.
3. His work ethic I think is unparalleled. I believe this is one of the reasons why he is not so “popular” because he only does his work, and does it with commitment to excellence. Hindi siya parang ibang pulitiko na puro dakdak, wala namang ginagawa, puro iskandalo lang, at saksakan pa ng plasik..
4. He has a great personality. He is God-fearing, a true family man (sweet daw sa wife niya), may paninidigan (walang teka muna, is very decisive, intelligent (I heard excerpts from his interviews, he gave very logical answers like the one on waste management being handled by the LGUs instead of national gov’t), and has a good sense of humor (He was poking fun at the adobo of one of DZRH’s reporters as being “manamis-namis”). He also seems someone na walang kaaway, so I have to agree with the idea na kaya niyang ipagkaisa ang admin at opposition towards a better Philippines.
I ask everyone not to rely solely on emotions when picking our next leader (that had happened 11 years ago and what did we get? I hope the people pick the leader the Philippines truly deserves. Let’s not let this opportunity pass, because candidates like Gibo don’t come regularly.
I AM FOR GIBO, THATS FOR SURE!
Mabuhay Pilipinas!!!…this is the man we filipinos waited for to be our leader…let us all unite to support him.he has all the potential to be our president, not by his family background..but by his own virtue and philosophy…go! go sir gibo!
Gibo is the most person to be the next president.Let’s not make the same mistakes.
We are all for Gibo !!!!!!
I am a die hard Ninoy, the brilliant ways of Ninoy helped me a lot to be a more matured thinking person, meaning it is the brain that is very important for Filipinos who wants to survive the global crisis everyone is sufferring now. THIS IS WHY I AM VOTING FOR GILBERT “GIBO” TEODORO AS PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES.
They said a good heart is very important, I agree! BUT with the present condition of our country we need BOTH HEART AND BRAIN. We need GIBO, a strong leader and a sound mind that can lead our country to progress. My fellow Filipinos, please open your hearts and minds, let us think of our country in general. Let us vote according to our conscience and not because of the influence of some people that are taking advantage of the Filipinos who have soft hearts. Let us combine both. Heart and Brain… and that is GIBO.
I would like to get the e-mail address or any contact number for GIBO so that I could help for his campaign. I am a member of several organization and from time to time we discuss each Presidential candidates and what they can do for our country. I would appreciate it very much to have his contact details.
Thank you.
Nelia E. Castro
I will vote for Gilbert Teodoro. I am even willing to campaign for him. No strings attached. Will you help me connect to his campaign office?
Thank you.
Marie
I am trying my best to persuade taxi drivers to vote for him. Inner circle members tell of an honest man , so courteous and humble. I am from the CAR and I tell people best to keep Malacanang funds for the north. Ha-ha-ha.
I am trying my best to persuade taxi driver to vote for him. Inner circle members tell of an honest man , so courteous and humble. I am from the CAR I tell people best to keep Malacanang funds for the north. So I will vote for someone who will most likely stand for me.
It is high time that our country, the Philippines be governed by a true, dedicated, honest and God-fearing person. It is time to have someone we can be proud of, someone who can stand for the Filipino people, rich or poor. We need someone who can make a difference and I believe this is Gilbert Gibo Teodoro.
When I first heard Gibo spoke, I felt right away his sincerity and the kind of man that he was. If anybody could just tell me how I could help in campaigning for him, please tell me. With Gibo as president, I will be more proud being a Filipino. Mabuhay, ang Pilipinas! Gibo for President!
Good choice
yes it will be Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro who will be our next president. he has all the capability to lead this country to a better future.Nong una ako ay may agam agam at tanong sa sarili. Kaya ba niyang makipag sabayan kina noynoy at villar. After seeing his bibliography eh may guts pa pala siya don sa dalawa.specially don sa harapan sa ANC talagang magaganda ang sagot niya doon. So doon ako nag decide to support him, from now on I will even campaign for him to my family and my friends. I am a born again christian, I am supposed to vote for Bro. Eddie. But knowing the intelegence and wisdom of gibo I’m sure he can lead this country better. so go go sir.
Gilbert Teodoro for President!! Our country needs a leader like him - with a vision, competence and character!! He’s the hope for our nation! Let’s all help in campaigning (positive campaign!) and making sure that Gibo Teodoro will win the 2010 presidency …or else kawawa na naman ang Pilipinas!
Go President Gilbert”Gibo” Teodoro! God bless you Sir!
I didn’t know what Gibo has in store until i heard him speak in various occasions: abs-cbn’s host Ted faylon tough/biased questions sa Juan on 1, ABS-cbn’s Harapan, al jazeera, etc..his decisiveness (ampatuans) and various critical events. Now I have decided who to vote in 2010. We deserve only the best. Kahit na nasa admin siya, he cannot be dictated upon..so walang epek sa akin yan. Go GIBO GO!!
been following gibo, convinced my wife to vote for him, my sister too, they were villar before, my brother - he’s a bit harder to convince - an svgian, cpa and picpa same as villar.
great man, sincere straightforward and decisive, witty - qualities of a good leader
go gibo - we are behind you!!!
I will definitely vote for Gilbert Teodoro. He is the man to beat. Don’t worry about the surveys, those are paid surveys of candidates who wants to think they are the frontrunners.
My vote for gibo will be a vote for a better philippines.
yes na yes for gibo.he certainly the most eligible among the aspirants.he is humble and certainly has a good platforms..gibo will be the next obama.mahina man sa survey pero panalo pagdating sa halalan.just remember people will think twice pag nasa election precint na atalaga.kaya i believe gibo will win.suportado ka namin sir…go..go..go..
Of all the Presidential Candidates, Gibo is still the best!
i don’t belive in the on-going surveys…seems financed by the so so leading candidates to mold the mind of the voting population that they are the true choice of the people. Hindi na ito Laban ni Ate Glo!…Laban ito ni Gibo!
Suportahan natin siya. Huwag tayo mahiyang ihayag na si Gibo ang karapatdapat magwagi sa labang ito!
